Sholinganallur: What to Know Before You Look
Chennai's IT hub on OMR, where two metro corridors are being built to meet at one interchange.
Sholinganallur is a southern suburb on Old Mahabalipuram Road, now Rajiv Gandhi Salai, and the point where the road divides into the Madhya Kailash to Sholinganallur zone and the Sholinganallur to Kelambakkam zone. It began as marshland, was annexed to the Chennai Corporation in 2011 and is known as an IT and residential hub, with Wipro, Infosys and TCS operations, the ELCOT SEZ nearby and a Tamil Nadu Housing Board satellite township. East Coast Road is about 2 km away, and Perumbakkam and Medavakkam lie to the west.
The main change under way is the Chennai Metro. An elevated interchange between Corridor 3, from Madhavaram to Siruseri SIPCOT, and Corridor 5, from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur, is being built at Sholinganallur, alongside grade separators at the junction. Suburban rail has also reached closer: MRTS services were extended from Velachery to St Thomas Mount from March 2026.

Metro status. The elevated OMR section of Corridor 3 has slipped before: a July 2024 report moved the target from June 2026 to December 2026 because of land, traffic and junction design issues at Sholinganallur and Thoraipakkam, and 2026 sources give March 2027. The Sholinganallur interchange was reported in September 2025 as expected within two years. Treat all dates as targets.

Ask about flooding near the site
During Cyclone Michaung in early December 2023, large apartment complexes in Perumbakkam were badly flooded, and residents reported more than 48 hours without power, water or food and submerged basements. A citizen audit found that the Vadakkupattu (Medavakkam Periya Eri) lake breached on 4 December 2023, affecting Medavakkam and Pallikaranai. Sholinganallur was originally marshland, and the Pallikaranai marsh, a Ramsar wetland since April 2022, is a flood buffer. Ask about ground level, basement waterproofing, sump and power backup at the specific project.
Inspect FirstCity before you buy
FirstCity is ready to occupy. Visit a finished tower, look at the common areas and the lifts, and ask for the completion certificate and details of the maintenance arrangements.
Do not price in the metro date
Metro dates on OMR have slipped before. Check the current position with Chennai Metro Rail Limited, and consider the construction traffic in the meantime.
