Mogappair: What to Know Before You Look
A settled residential neighbourhood between Ambattur and Anna Nagar, with many schools and hospitals and a metro extension proposed.
Mogappair, also known as Dr. J.J. Nagar, is a north-western Chennai neighbourhood west of Jawaharlal Nehru Road, the Inner Ring Road. It is split into Mogappair East and Mogappair West and lies on State Highway 112 between Ambattur and Anna Nagar, about 3 km from Anna Nagar, 5 km from Ambattur and 8 km from Avadi. The Padi and Nolambur industrial areas are next door.
The area is mainly residential, named after the old Mugapeeri lake, and has Mangal Lake park, more than twenty schools and a dozen or so hospitals and clinics. In recent years it has also gained some IT offices, and the Ambattur Industrial Estate, IT parks and data-centre developments lie close by.

Metro status. A 21.76 km elevated extension of Corridor 5 from Koyambedu to Pattabiram on the Outer Ring Road has been proposed with 19 stations. The state gave in-principle approval in May 2025, and the project report lists Padi Pudhu Nagar, Mogappair, Ambattur, Thirumullaivoyal and Avadi. It still needed Union government clearance at the last report we found, in August 2025, and no 2026 update was found. It is not under construction.

Ask about drainage and past waterlogging
The News Minute reported waterlogging in Mogappair East, Ambattur and Nolambur in November 2023, and residents cited damaged pumping pipes and recurring annual flooding. Ask about the site's ground level and stormwater arrangements, and speak to nearby residents.
Do not price in the metro yet
The Koyambedu to Pattabiram extension has state in-principle approval but was awaiting Union government clearance at the last report we found. Treat it as a possibility, and check the current position with Chennai Metro Rail Limited.
Test the commute
Drive from the site to your workplace and to the nearest station on a weekday morning and evening. CTH Road is a bottleneck for westward trips.
