A well-established, mid-market suburb south of the city, close to the OMR IT corridor but without its own metro or premium pricing.
Medavakkam is a residential suburb bordered by Sholinganallur, Perumbakkam, Madipakkam, Selaiyur, Keelkattalai and Velachery, and sits close to the OMR IT corridor without being directly on it: Sholinganallur, at the edge of OMR, is roughly 4 km away via the Medavakkam–Sholinganallur road. That makes Medavakkam a common choice for people who want OMR-adjacent pricing without paying OMR-frontage rates.
There is no operating metro line in Medavakkam today. Chennai Metro's Corridor 5 has planned stations here, including Medavakkam Koot Road and Medavakkam Junction, but these are still under construction elsewhere on the line and have no confirmed opening date for this stretch.
The area saw flooding during Cyclone Michaung in December 2023, along with much of south Chennai, and a breach at Medavakkam lake was cited in local reporting on the city's stormwater drainage gaps. This is worth asking about for any specific site rather than a reason on its own to avoid the area.
